Gnowangerup was part of the route to Albany made by bullock teams.
Bullock Shoeing
“Because some Bullock-Drays had to be hauled over many days on hard and stoney ground throughout Australia, Blacksmiths had to Shoe the Bullocks.

Australian Blacksmiths still have a National Competition today in ‘Shoeing the Bullock’. The Bullock shoe is called a Cue”.
If anyone has information they can share about this little known local activity it would be appreciated.

In our district most people used horses howver there were advantages to using bullocks.
Gloria Vermaes: “Grandfather Will Black could drive a team of bullocks. I think that’s how they travelled from Gnowangerup to Ravensthorpe. It took ten days Mum said”
